WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Iconic Umpire Billy Bowden Joins Spirit of Cricket Festivale in Mildura

One of cricket’s most recognisable and charismatic figures is set to bring his flair and experience to the 2025 Spirit of Cricket Festivale in Mildura, with former ICC elite umpire Billy Bowden officially confirmed to officiate across both weeks of the two-part event, running from September 16–30.

The New Zealander, known globally for his theatrical flair, crooked finger of doom, and signature quirky signals, has been appointed to umpire daily across the Iinternational Masters Cricket approved Over-50s Global Tri-Series featuring Australia, USA, and Canada, before remaining on to officiate two games per day during the Spirit of Cricket Global T20 Festivale, which will feature eight franchise sides with players from across Australia and New Zealand.

With a career that has spanned the very top level of international cricket, Billy Bowden’s umpiring resume is unmatched:

  • Tests: 84 matches

  • ODIs: 200 matches

  • T20 Internationals: 21 matches

He stood in World Cups, Ashes Tests, and high-pressure finals, but it’s his expressive manner, flamboyant gestures, and undeniable passion for the game that truly captured the hearts of fans around the world.


Jeff Charlesworth, Spirit of Cricket umpire Director and the man who made it all happen, said:
