A Defining Moment for 2026 Festivale
The Spirit of Cricket Global organisation is proud to announce the appointment of Henry Olonga as the Season 3 Ambassador for the Spot On Hose & Fittings Spirit of Cricket Festivale, to be held in Mildura, Victoria in September 2026.
In what is a landmark moment for the global expansion of the Spirit of Cricket, Olonga’s involvement signals a powerful alignment between one of the game’s most courageous figures and a movement built on values of respect, sportsmanship, integrity and playing hard and fair.

A trailblazer in world cricket, Olonga made history as the first black player to represent Zimbabwe and remains one of the most compelling figures the game has ever produced. His career, which included over 30 Test matches and 50 One Day Internationals, was defined not only by his pace and passion, but by his unwavering courage.

Olonga’s stand at the 2003 Cricket World Cup, wearing a black armband alongside Andy Flower, transcended sport and became one of cricket’s most powerful moments of integrity. It was a decision that ultimately cost him his international career, but cemented his legacy as a man of principle.

Spirit of Cricket Founder & CEO, Anthony Telfer, said the appointment represents everything the organisation stands for:
“Henry Olonga embodies the true Spirit of Cricket. His courage, his story and his willingness to stand for what he believes in align perfectly with our values. This is more than cricket, it’s about character, leadership and legacy.”
Olonga expressed his excitement about joining the Spirit of Cricket movement and the 2026 Festivale:
“Cricket has always been a platform for more than just performance, it’s about people, purpose and the spirit in which the game is played. What the Spirit of Cricket is building truly resonates with me. I’m incredibly excited to be part of the Festivale in Mildura, to connect with players from around the world, and to contribute both in the commentary box and beyond. It promises to be a special event.”

Adding another dimension to the Festivale experience, Olonga, a former contestant on The Voice, will also bring his singing talents to the event, performing at 2 functions across the tournament, enhancing the unique culture of cricket, connection and entertainment that defines the Spirit of Cricket.
Olonga will join Spirit of Cricket anchor Pat Silcox and Darren Cheek in the commentary box throughout the tournament, building on the success of last year’s broadcast team featuring Peter Walsh and Michael Kasprowicz.
During the Australian summer, Olonga has also spent time in the commentary box in Adelaide, contributing to Sheffield Shield and women’s cricket coverage at iconic venues such as Adelaide Oval and Karen Rolton Oval, alongside respected voices including Jason Gillespie and Bharat Sundaresan. His rich tones, insight and storytelling ability have made him a natural fit behind the microphone, and the Spirit of Cricket family is looking forward to sharing his commentary experience with a global audience.

The 2026 Festivale builds on strong momentum, following the involvement of leading cricket figures including Adam Dale and Mike Veletta in 2025.
Earlier this year, the Spirit of Cricket also completed a successful international tour of South Africa, where legendary great Barry Richards served as Ambassador, further strengthening the organisation’s global footprint.
The Spot On Hose & Fittings Spirit of Cricket Festivale (24–29 September 2026) will once again bring together players from across Australia & New Zealand, showcasing high-quality cricket underpinned by the values that define the game at its best.

With Olonga’s appointment, the 2026 Festivale takes another major step forward, not just as a tournament, but as a global platform for the Spirit of Cricket movement.
Play Hard. Play Fair. Respect the Game.
