From Port Moresby to the Barossa – the Spirit travels strong 🇵🇬

The Spirit of Cricket proudly welcomes the Papua New Guinea Women’s Team – the PNG Lewas – to South Australia for the Australian Country Cricket Championships in the stunning Barossa Valley. After three hard-fought rounds, the Lewas sit an impressive second on the ladder, a testament to their skill, resilience and growing presence on the international stage.

This visit is about more than results. Earlier this year in Port Moresby, the Lewas became part of Spirit of Cricket history as the first International Cricket Council team to complete the SOC Curriculum.

Delivered by SOC ambassadors The Nelson Twins, the one-hour session brought together players from both the PNG men’s and women’s squads, alongside local umpires, in a powerful exchange of stories, values and reflection.

The twins spoke with passion, honesty and humour, sharing their own cricketing journeys while reinforcing the behaviours and values that define our great game. Even with a slight language barrier at times, the message was crystal clear: cricket has a universal language. Respect, accountability and spirit transcend borders, cultures and words.

As Justin Nelson reflected:

“It was a very productive session and it was amazing how players, even at international level were prepared to reflect on their behaviour and attitude to the game.”

Now, as the Lewas light up the Barossa with their cricket and character, we celebrate not only their on-field success but the way they embody the very essence of the Spirit of Cricket.
